Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are nearing the end of a fabulous school year at Oak Grove.  At this time, we are also beginning to plan for next year.  We would like to assure you that in making the classroom assignments for next year, the teachers consider a great number of factors in order to create the most highly functional, balanced, and healthy classroom environment possible for each and every student.   Teachers meet in focused grade level groups to consider all of the following criteria:

  • number of male and female students
  • appropriate placements of students with special needs
  •  academic ability of all students
  •  distribution of students with behavioral issues
  •  students needing math, reading, writing, or homework intervention
  •  personality match of teachers and students
  •  number of active parent volunteers per classroom
  •  student attendance
  •  counseling and other special pull-outs
  •  friendships of students(are they helpful or distracting to academic progress?)
  •  recommendations from prior teachers regarding student pairings
  •  other extenuating circumstances

The classroom assignments for your child will be sent home on June 19, 2013.   We hope you will trust the judgment and experience of the teachers in the decision about the make-up of the classes for the 2013-2014 school year.  Occasionally, changes in placement need to be made by the district office over the summer based on enrollment increases or decreases.  Of course, we will notify you if a change in your child’s placement occurs. If you have strong concerns about the assigned placement for your child, you will have an opportunity to express the reasons for your concerns in writing to the school office no later than Friday, June 28, 2013. No changes will be considered after this deadline.

Thank you in advance for trusting our teachers to make the best educational decisions for our classes and our students.  As you know, the Oak Grove staff always puts students first.  Have a wonderful summer!

Respectfully,

Paige Gardner, Principal, Oak Grove Elementary School

Website Updates

We have been working on the school's website to improve its value as an additional source of information.  The Home Page will have notices and reminders, along with an "EVENT" calendar that will show upcoming Field Trips, School Events, Meetings and Holidays.

There are "Quick Links" on the left side of the home page to get you directly to information you may need.  The TOP Navigation bar will take you to other resources and information that may interest you.

The "Classes" button in the top navigation bar will get you to your Student's Classroom Teacher's web page where there will be classroom and Friday Folder information posted....in case it did not make it home, or you prefer to view  it on-line.

CARPOOL LANE is for families who carpool. That means if you transport your own children and those from another family. We encourage families to use this opportunity, but remember it just like "101", you need to have more than 1 family to be eligible.

ATTENDANCE is essential to "School Success". Your children need to attend regularly and to be on time.School begins at 8:40 and students may arrive by 8:15. Arrival before 8:15 can be possible if arrangements are made with our Mighty Oaks day care program.
